Jane Eyre consists of several subjects which all play a portion in the novel. with faith being a major subject. The Christianity faith. more specifically. is one of the chief subjects. In this research paper I would wish to analyze the relationship between Jane Eyre and the Christianity faith. I besides want to look at how Christianity plays its function in the novel. There are a few different types of Christianity represented by four characters in the novel ; Mr. Brocklehurst. Helen. St. John. and the Jane herself. I want to look at how Jane’s spiritual beliefs evolved from the beginning of the novel until the terminal. I besides want explore more into the faith of Christianity. and compare it with the other three characters already stated. One can see the different types of Christianity through these characters. and what it may sometimes look like. I would wish to stop the paper with replying the inquiry. is Jane Eyre a Christian or merely a religious individual. and what research led me to this decision.
Christian religion is one of the most popular faiths practiced in the universe. with over a billion people practising it today. However. there are several different types of Christianity. yet they all have the same basic beliefs. Christians believe in God. and that Jesus is his 1 and merely boy. Jesus is the Messiah that was promised in the Old Testament. They believe that God sent his Son to earth to salvage His people from their wickednesss. Jesus did that by deceasing on a cross and giving up his life. which is referred to as the Crucifixion. Christians believe that Jesus rose on the 3rd twenty-four hours after his decease. which is called the Resurrection. There is merely on God. but there is three parts of God. God the Father. God the Son. and God the Holy Spirit. Christians are taught from the Holy Bible. which normally contains the old and new testaments. The figure of books varies. depending on the subdivision of Christianity. Easter. which celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. and Christmas. which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ are considered sacred yearss in the Christian faith.
The first character that I would wish to detect is Mr. Brocklehurst. Brocklehurst can be considered to be a “hypocritical Calvinist” ( Franklin. p. 463 ) . One could merely see him as a dissembler. Brocklehurst runs a school for misss. in which he subjects them to the topmost humbleness. and uses dishonoring and strong-arming as a manner to maintain them in line. His concluding for all of this relates back to his “faith. ” Yet while he makes these misss live in such a manner. he lives extravagantly. and does the really opposite of what he preaches and what his faith Teachs. Elisabeth Jay provinces in an article that Brocklehurst is a “repressive sanctimony. wholly at odds with the service of a God of Love. ” and that what is most instantly crying about Brocklehurst is that he see accountability not…as emanating from introspection but in footings of modulating the lives of others” ( Faith and Doubt. p. 19 ) .
