I read the Preface and Point of Departure of Smith’s The World’s Religions. and the Preface of Novak’s The World’s Wisdom: Sacred Texts of the World’s Religions. I understand the brotherhood of the texts. In Smith’s book he states. “Listening defines the intent for this book. ” and that this book is. “not a book on comparative faiths. ” We will non be debating nor knocking one faith with the other but instead larning the traditions and wisdom values of the faiths. We are to listen and encompass the faiths of the universe.
If we were to analyze all the faiths of the universe we would merely be cataloging larning non them. Religion is non a affair of facts ; it’s a affair of significances. The cognition of faith is indispensable to life. Not listening and larning other people’s faith is shuting your eyes to the people and the universe we live in.
