Through Mary Warren’s words she shows herself to be a follower. John is seeking to wheedle Mary to come clean to the tribunal about the prevarications her and her friends are stating. but Mary knows that if she tells the misss will turn on her and she doesn’t want to bear down Abby with slaying. Therefore. she tells Proctor she can’t do it. “She’ll kill me for stating that! ” ( 955 ) . Mary knows that if she snitches on Abby she will come for her life. Mary is a weak miss. and Abby is much stronger ; Abby is stronger mentally. Abby is the leader and whatever she does or says goes. Abby threats the misss. she tells them if they tell she will come and kill them herself. Mary is standing before Judge Danforth to state him that her and the misss are lying.
He does non believe that the whole thing is bogus. so he asks her to shout and forge seeing liquors before him if it is all a prevarication. Mary couldn’t conveying herself to make that. because the other misss were non being fake and transporting on ; she had no 1 to follow behind to do it look existent so she merely stood at that place. “It were pretense. sir. ” ( 960 ) . Naming Proctor the Devil’s adult male makes it all obvious that Mary switches back to Abby and the girls’ side. Mary couldn’t take the accusing and being on Abby’s side was much easier than being on her ain squad. By her actions of indicating at Proctor and naming him the Devil’s adult male Mary no longer feels the demand to be true about what truly is traveling down in the tribunal room. One can clearly see through Mary Warren’s actions she has the trait of being a ambidextrous individual.
