Why Was Communism Feared?
After WWII, Americans knew they lived in the strongest
and & # 8220 ; greatest & # 8221 ; state on Earth. They were nevertheless afraid
of communism at place and abroad. Through the reading and
treatments in this category I have found the primary logical thinking
for this fright was because they did non desire to believe our
state could be like the remainder.
After the war concerns were seeking to acquire back to
normal and seeking to change over signifier planes to autos so to
speak. The full economic system was working to do life better
for the state. Communism was traveling on all over the universe
in state & # 8217 ; s like China and Russia. The U.S. must ever be
the world power so they put their two cents in when speech production
about foreign personal businesss. The authorities did non desire to cover
with other state & # 8217 ; s because they did non desire the Communist
influence to take consequence in the U.S. So the Americans were
doing their ain things in mill & # 8217 ; s and such. Peoples were
unable to purchase goods they wanted or needed.
During the cold war Joe McCarthy began t put out list
of people whom he thought were communist in the U.S. The
McCarthyism epoch began a widespread fright of communism.
Peoples in the U.S. were taught that communism was bad and
anyone affiliated humor it were bad excessively. Peoples were called
& # 8220 ; red or & # 8220 ; pink & # 8221 ; for demoing leery marks of communism.
Communist state & # 8217 ; s were non people whom you wanted to be
affiliated with. McCarthy went brainsick in impeaching many
people of being ruddy or tap. McCarthy blamed many guiltless
people and few like the Rosenburg & # 8217 ; s were killed and later
found out to be guiltless.
The McCarthy epoch can be compared to the book The
Crucible. The kids in the book had done something bad
and got caught, but to take the attending off them they
began to impeach people of being enchantresss. Peoples that had
crossed them in some manner became the 1s who were accused
and later innocently convicted and killed. I feel that
perchance many of the people on McCarthy & # 8217 ; s list could hold
been accused in the same manner as the enchantresss. I think that
McCarthy wanted power merely as the U.S. wants to be the power
of the state. He began impeaching people and the state
believed his accusals because they did non desire to
believe our state could be corrupted by communism. Our
state wanted to be in control but did non desire to fall to
the communist power. The U.S. does non wish what it can non
control and it is unable to command a communist state.
& lt ;< p>Our state wanted to surpass everyone else. They feared
that if communist were in our state so they were working
for other state & # 8217 ; s and leaking out our information. We
wanted to hold the best bombs and the best equipment, and if
other state & # 8217 ; s were maintaining up with us so person must be
stating them our secrets. The authorities did non desire to
think that possibly the other state & # 8217 ; s are every bit smart as us I
average come on we are the U.S. no 1 can out make us. The
fright ever leads back to the fact that we do non desire to be
2nd best at anything we are the figure one state in the
state. Other state & # 8217 ; s expression to us for support and what
would they believe if we had communist in our office. The
authorities began to go more & # 8220 ; secret & # 8221 ; with its traffics.
Finally people got tired of McCarthy and his
accusals and they began to oppugn what he was seeking to
acquire the populace to believe. The authorities began to restrict
the tests and tried to acquire McCarthy out of the office.
Eisenhower did non like McCarthy or his tactics. Peoples
began to believe less and less that communism was broad
spread in the state. It was in congress hopes to convey
the & # 8220 ; red panic & # 8221 ; to an terminal, along with McCarthy.
Eisenhower along with the authorities wanted to do the
U.S. the figure one state intake state. It was constructing
bombs, seeking to put to death all of the Communists that tried to
halt their devising, and construct up national security. The
state did non desire to put on the line a ruin of power by leting
communism to take consequence in the state. With all that
McCarthy had started non much was accomplished, merely a clump
of people being innocently accused of a offense known a
communism. Eisenhower wanted to stop McCarthy? s reign so he
put him on test and found that his actions had no general
intent. McCarthy? s yearss were over and it seemed like one
twenty-four hours the panic of communist fright would be over in the he
U.s.
With all that had happened in the U.S. in this epoch, the
merely decision that I could pull about why Americans feared
communism in our state, the? greatest? state of all, was
the fright of non being the best. The state feared what it
did non hold control of and communism is merely that. The
U.S. could no longer leap in and seek to govern in best
involvement of another state if they were Communist.
Communism in the U.S. was a moral issue. This job could
non be solved by the president or anyone on his cabinet.
Eisenhower was a director, non a moral leader ( Bragg 74 ) .
