Creative Writing: Siege of Yorktown

It was four O & # 8217 ; clock in the forenoon when my commanding officer awoke me

and we were ordered to fix to process. We had set up an extended cantonment at

Chatham in New York, we all believed that we would assail New York City. It

turned out that we were processing on towards Yorktown.

When we arrived at Yorktown the bay was full of Gallic ships. Our ground forces

along with the Gallic surrounded Cornwallis. Cornwallis did non give up, he

waited for a larger British fleet to salvage him.

Bing in the Corps of Sappers and Miners we were to fix mines and

trenches. On the dark of October 5th we sneaked within 150 ft. of the British

lines. We were under heavy protection, for it was a dark and showery dark. We

laid down pine wood end-to-end so military personnels would cognize where to delve trenches. The

trenches allowed 100 cannons to be near to the British but still be under

protection. Soldiers were moved to the country and issued shovels and choices. It

was genuinely a loyal minute to see General Washin

gton interrupt the first land at

the Siege of Yorktown.

We had sent a little set of work forces to the western side of us to fire on the

British. Our program worked and all the British interior were shortly firing on them

while we dug our trenches. When morning came around they saw their error and

started firing on us but no injury was done. It took nine yearss to delve all of the

trenches. Finally on October 15th we were prepared to get down the besieging.

As the American Flag rose 10 cannons fired at the same time. Since we

were firing from 150 ft. off our cannons had a annihilating consequence. Later,

during the 2nd afternoon the Sappers and Miners, including myself were issued

axes and we were instructed to chop a way through the abattis ( the tops of trees

cut with a slanting shot to move as spikes ) they were about impossible to acquire

through. As American and Gallic soldiers rushed through the British ran in

panic, merely minor manus to manus combat took topographic point. Soon afterwords the British

handed over their regimental flags and stacked their arms in a heap. That

was it the war was over!
