Alan Paton, in his novel, Cry, the Beloved Country, shows how the horrors of South African apartheid effected two single households, one black and one white. Throughout the class of the novel, these two households overcome the ironss of apartheid and larn that love and forgiveness cross racial lines. In this novel a black adult male, Absalom Kumalo, makes a determination to slay a white adult male, Arthur Jarvis. This determination effects the chief character, Stephen Kumalo, a secondary character, James Jarvis, every bit good as the overall work.
