C A N D I D E B Y: V O L T A I R E

( FORMALISM )

Voltaire & # 8217 ; s CANDIDE is a narrative about a adult male who was in hunt of true

felicity and who was in a journey that proves that non all is for the best. He grew up

in palace of Westphalia, but was exiled when found snoging the baron & # 8217 ; s girl.

That was where his bad lucks began, among them was when he was tortured during

An ground forces preparation, when his philosopher was hanged in an autoda & # 8217 ; irons, when he rescued

his true love from the custodies of the Inquisitor and the Jew, when the Anabaptist James

and his friend died during the temblors in Lisbon, and when he realized that a state, in

order to be happy, should be secluded from the remainder of the universe, despite of these? he

still believed that there is a & # 8220 ; cause and consequence & # 8221 ; for everything! At this point, we would

still happen him fighting and contending in hope that he and Cunegonde would still be

together. He started to witness the inhuman treatment of life. There were a batch of times that he

wanted to give up? but the lone thing that kept him alive was the hope that things

will acquire better. As Dr.Pangloss would ever state, & # 8221 ; Everything was made for a intent,

all is necessary for the BEST intent & # 8221 ; .The subject of this book is that no 1 should be

a victim? in life we know that there are battles and obstructions that SHOULD be

overcomed and that non everything should be passively accepted? Voltaire & # 8217 ; s novices

the thought that people should work to do their felicity.

Voltaire as the storyteller of the narrative was besides able to knock some of

the present people during his times. He did this by utilizing Thursday

eir names or locating similar

state of affairss that happened in existent life. Because of this he was able to come up with such

fantastic characters that was able to lend a great trade to Candide & # 8217 ; s journey.

Dr.Pangloss..the greatest philosopher of all clip as his tutor.Lady Cunegonde as the

apple of his eye.The old adult female who was said to be the girl of Pope X. Cacambo

..his faithful servant.Baron..as the brother of his beloved.Martin as his gentleman and who

accompanied him through Venice. And in conclusion, this hapless Turkish husbandman whom he meets,

and allows Candide to recognize that all he needs to be happy is a garden that he could

construct his life about and that he was right non to lose hope.

In the terminal the reader might believe that Candide was happy? Yes..he was

reunited with his instructor and was married to his true love Cunegonde. But he was non

happy, he no longer loves her and he doesn & # 8217 ; t believe in the rules of his instructor

anymore. This book had so many unneeded scenes in the narrative that wasn & # 8217 ; t truly

needed at all. It travelled from topographic points to topographic points leting the same things to go on

once more? and once more? there were so many characters involved but merely few were truly

important? It & # 8217 ; s rather dragging because you have this feeling that you know

what will go on next.Another bad point of this book is the stoping part. The flood tide

was so high already, as a reader you will be looking for something, but alternatively it ends

with a garden scene, it was rather symbolic but it wasn & # 8217 ; t satisfying. The merely message

here is we shouldn & # 8217 ; t hope for the best but we should endeavor for it. It was skilfully

written but, it & # 8217 ; s non finish? it shouldn & # 8217 ; t ‘ve ended that manner.
