English- The Plague and The Stranger

Albert Camus

Every twelvemonth when visible radiation hits my window a small spot earlier than regular and the odor of dew on grass is fresh every forenoon the birds from snake pit aftermath me up at five O & # 8217 ; clock. The stupid small critters got to peep their manner into my dreams and trouble oneself me. Every twelvemonth I put with this for three months during summer and when they start migrating I start observing. But sometimes I am sad that they had to go forth, really I & # 8217 ; m non. We take nature for granted sometimes. We know that the trees will be in the same topographic point everyday to supply us shadow, and the birds will be their to drop crap on a newly washed auto. We are used to thing they are portion of our mundane life, but when these things are non at that place we miss them and hold a feeling of desperation. We don & # 8217 ; T know where to turn to, where to happen a replacement for those null feelings. Neither did two similar people in

THE PLAGUE ( TP ) and THE STRANGER ( TS ) both by Albert Camus. We see these two characters abuse and hassle nature, but when that nature is gone they have no 1 to turn to. In both books we see the two characters parallel each other & # 8217 ; s traits.

In TP we have an aged adult male who everyday comes out of his balcony to torture the cats that are populating in his vicinity. On page 25 last paragraph we get a descriptive transition about his attempts at atomizing the cats with luggies. & # 8220 ; ? He had a soldierlike bearing, really vertical, and affected a military manner of dressing ; his snow white hair was all brushed to hone smoothness. Leaning over the balcony he would name: & # 8220 ; Pussy! Pussy! & # 8221 ; in a voice at one time disdainful and endearing. The cats blinked up at him with sleep-pale eyes, but made no move every bit yet. He so proceeded to rupture some paper into garbages and allow them fall into the street ; interested by the fliting shower of white butterflies, the cats came frontward, raising their probationary paws toward the last garbages of paper. Then taking careful purpose, the old adult male would ptyalize at the cats and, whenever a liquid missile hit the qua

rry, would beam with delight.”

Eldritch cat this Camus, what sort of people did he hang around with? In TS outlandishness goes to a whole new degree. On page 26 we are introduced to Salamano the old adult male who has a Canis familiaris that looks like him. Full of strikebreaker and losing his hair. The Canis familiaris and Sal are ever holding battles they ne’er get along. Every twenty-four hours at 12 and 6 Sal takes his Canis familiaris for a walk. He swears and expletives at him and they have been traveling through the same modus operandi for 8 twelvemonth.

We come to their first similarity. The old adult male who spits at cats and Salamano both heckle nature. Their modus operandis are based upon teasing animate beings, you see this is their life. They have no other responsibility than to sleep together around with animals. Without that their lives are nonmeaningful. In TP when the cats are killed off the old adult male no longer comes out and finally dies off. When Sal & # 8217 ; s Canis familiaris runs off he is stricken with heartache and hurting.

Both work forces are really lonely. With no 1 else in their lives they find joy and felicity in arousing hurting in the wildlife around them. Sal ne’er loved his married woman, but learned to populate with her so when she died he bought the Canis familiaris to make full the nothingness left by his married woman. He learned to populate with the Canis familiaris excessively and they grew old together. When the Canis familiaris ran off he had no 1 to turn to. On page 38 and 39 Sal goes to Meursault for aid he can non populate without the Canis familiaris and must hold him back. But still he curses the Canis familiaris as he is inquiring for aid. In the drop notes for TP on page 17 it states that the old adult male is sad and goes into his house to decease without the cats.

We have come to the point where we can see that both characters parallel each other and are likely brothers. We can besides infer that because of their solitariness and their fetching nature for granted they were sad when nature went off from them and left them to decease entirely, without a psyche that cared for them. I can safely state that these two work forces brought about their ain deceases by ne’er handling something particular with attention. It was their wont to tease the cats and the Canis familiaris, and overall they strangled themselves with their wonts. vc
