The Queen of Air and Darkness
In the Queen of Air and Darkness Morgause raises four male child. She is non
a good female parent, and she does non give her boys a sense of right and incorrect. She
frequently ignores them for yearss at a clip and beats them when they displease her.
She acts as if they were pets instead than human existences, to be loved or non at
her convenience. But despite this common ill-treatment, the male childs turn out really
otherwise.
Gawaine is the oldest of the male childs and in many ways the most normal. He
becomes a knight in Arthur & # 8217 ; s tribunal, contending for him loyally. The manner in which
he is affected by his upbringing is his furies. When aggravated Gawaine goes into
a amuck fury in which he does things he would usually ne’er do. When Gawaine
and Agravaine are reasoning over whether or non to compose a missive to their male parent
about the knights, Agravaine refuses to state he is incorrect, so Gawaine goes berserk
and attacks him. He does non merely crush him, but chokes him and bang his caput
against the floor until Gareth pulls him off. If Gareth had non been at that place,
Gawaine really good might hold killed his younger brother. Gawaine even kills a
adult females when worked up to a fury. These furies are a merchandise of the unhealthy
childhood he endured.
The following kid, Agravaine, is likely the least good adjusted of the
four. He tends to be sadistic and egoistic. The kids were told the
narrative of the King of Ireland by St. Toirdealbhach ; the narrative where the male monarch gets a
caput lesion and can non be excited, but so he dies while seeking to support his
Jesus. Agravaine does non see any point in seting one & # 8217 ; s ego in danger to
protect any one else. He says? It was silly, it did no good, ? because he does
non understand the principal behind the narrative. He does non understand that
there are things other than yourself deserving deceasing for. Agravaine & # 8217 ; s sadism is
evidenced in the Unicorn episode. After the male childs agree to capture and non kill
the unicorn, Agravaine R
United Nationss up behind it and begins knifing it repeatedly. He
could non stand that the Unicorn of all time leave him, so by killing it he thinks to
own it everlastingly. Agravaine is the male child most like his female parent, in that he can non
see past his ain involvements.
The following kid Gaheris, seems to hold small personality. He is
described as? a impassive child. ? More frequently than non he seems to be merely along
for the drive. He does non take portion in the statements. He by and large merely sits
back and tickers. When Gawaine goes into a fury and onslaughts Agravaine, he does
non mediate on either male child & # 8217 ; s behalf. The lone thing he does in the battle is to
take the dirk which had been flung from Agravaine & # 8217 ; s manus and guarantee that it was
non recovered. He seems afraid of action. He prefers to take as inactive a function
possible in confrontations. When Agravaine begins killing the unicorn, Gaheris
is the last to come out of concealment. When Gareth starts groaning over it being
dead, all Gaheris has to state is, ? Anyway, now its dead. ? Unlike Gawaine, Gareth
is recluse and hesitating to move.
The concluding kid, Gareth, is by far the kindest. He balances out
Agravaine & # 8217 ; s inhuman treatment with his good will. When Agravaine is being beat by Gawaine,
Gareth saves his life by drawing Gawaine off him, despite the fact that Gawaine
was much larger than him. When Agravaine kills the Unicorn, Gareth tries to
halt him, and he so cries over the unicorn & # 8217 ; s decease. Gareth seems to hold the
temperament of a monastic. He believes that the King of Ireland was right to
effort to salvage his savior despite his status. Gareth puts the public assistance of
other people before his ain.
The four male childs, all brought up in the same mode, have different and
equilibrating characteristics. Gawaine is surpassing and speedy to move, but he is balanced by
Gaheris who is recluse and slow to action. Agravaine is sadistic and selfish,
but he is balanced by Gareth who is sort and generous. They compliment each
other and together are stronger than they can of all time be apart.
