Robert Frost & # 8217 ; s & # 8220 ; The Road Not Taken & # 8221 ; shows the uncertainness as to which route of life a individual should take. It raises the apparent inquiry of whether it is better to take a route in which many travel, or to take the route less traveled and research it yourself. In this verse form the talkers tone, enunciation, and puting aid to exemplify the battle a individual goes through in their lives to pick the right route to go.

In the first poetry of the first stanza, Frost says & # 8220 ; Two roads diverged in a xanthous wood, & # 8221 ; which is apparently a really of import portion of the verse form. This line is a metaphor in which Frost uses the forests to stand for life. Using this as an image helps to hold a better apprehension of the complexness of the job that the talker is confronting. If you were standing at the border of some forests you would non be able to clearly see what was in front of you, because it would be obstructed by trees and subdivisions. Life is like those forests because no 1 can clearly see or foretell what will go on in the hereafter, merely hope to take a way that will take you to good luck and felicity.

Another interesting portion of this poetry is how he describes the forests as yellow. A word that strongly helps out the imagination, helps to depict the uncertainness of the talker, and implies that he may be scared to even take a way. Obviously he does non desire to make up one’s mind upon the incorrect route and muss up the remainder of his life. I believe that as he stands before these two roads he is truly baffled and scared as to which route to pick. All he can make is look as far down each route as possible, and hope that he decides upon the right 1. This is precisely what he does when he looks down the first route, at the terminal of the first stanza.

The 2nd stanza starts off with the talker speaking about the other way, and how he looked merely every bit difficult, merely as long, and merely as just on this way as he did the first. Meaning that he took precisely every measure analysing this route as he did the other. It is about this clip when I foremost notice a alteration in the talkers tone. It becomes a little more confident, non much, but decidedly less baffled and scared than he was earlier. The first glance of this alteration in tone is in the 8th poetry where he says, & # 8220 ; because it { the 2nd route } was grassy and wanted wear. & # 8221 ; It besides shows that the talker may non desire to be like everybody else, a follower, but alternatively take a different route and be himself, a leader. This poetry besides says that the route wanted wear, like he was drawn to path non merely out of his ain desire to be different, but possibly out of some commiseration. Tha

T commiseration being that the route is traveled less non because it is non appealing, but that people are to afraid to be different. Verse 12 is interesting when the talker says that, “In leaves no measure had trodden black, ” which I take to intend that the few people who did take to take the route less traveled did non come across any troubles or obstructions. He so goes on to state that, “Oh, I kept the first for another twenty-four hours, ” as to state that it took him a long clip to do his determination. Actually it may hold been months or even old ages before the talker chose a route. He knew that the determination he made would find the result of his life, and that he would hold to be devoted to the route he chose. Once he made his determination he would likely ne’er be able to turn back.

Again in the 3rd stanza, the talkers tone seems to alter. This clip his tone seems to be filled with assurance, and the baffled and frightened tone is gone. I believe this assurance is shown in poetry 18, when the talker repeats the first poetry, except he leaves out the word yellow. I think he intentionally left out the word yellow to demo that he had gained assurance, and that he was no longer scared. I besides believe that the word yellow was used to demo the oversight of clip between when he was foremost faced with the determination to the clip he really made his determination. Using this imagination, in the first stanza xanthous meant the colour of the trees leaf, and in the 3rd stanza they are no longer yellow.

Besides in the 3rd stanza he says, & # 8220 ; I shall be stating this with a suspiration someplace ages and ages hence. & # 8221 ; I don & # 8217 ; t believe he said this is in a negative manner, as to demo that he chose the incorrect route. Alternatively I believe it helps to demo that he chose the right 1, and the suspiration was to demo that it had non been easy. It helps to demo that through the old ages he stuck with the way he chose no affair what the state of affairs, or how difficult it was to remain on it and maintain traveling. Finally in the last two verses the talker tells us that he did take the route less traveled, and that it has made all the difference. By this I believe he meant that since he decided to be different it lead him on the route to a good life. One that was full of assurance, felicity, and independency.

After you read this verse form you realize that below the in-between enunciation and simplistic expression that the verse form is really really deep. It supplies us with a state of affairs that each individual has to confront at least one time in their life. That state of affairs being that each individual has to fight to seek and set their life on the right route. The route which leads them to what they believe to be felicity.
