In literature as in life people frequently suffer terrible trials of character. Sometimes they must support their beliefs in the face of great resistance. In the play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, two characters showed this quality. John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse both suffered terrible trials of character. In my sentiment these characters are perfect illustrations of these type of people.
Rebecca Nurse is a good illustration of a character that got tested. She sacrificed her life for her ethical motives. When asked by Reverend Hale to she said wouldn T confess to witchcraft even to excuse her ain life. Rebecca knew she would populate if she confessed, but she wouldn t confess because she wouldn t state a prevarication. She was a theoretical account individual in this play. Rebecca did such good workss that people in other town had even heard of her. That s why most people were shocked when they heard that she was put on test for witchery. Rebecca was hung at the terminal of the play for non squealing to wi
tchcraft even though she was guiltless.
John Proctor is another good illustration of a character that got tested. He was non as that good of a individual, but he made up for it at the terminal of the play. John had committed the offense of adultry during the drama. He had cheated on his married woman with Abby. He besides did non travel to church every Sunday. He was besides accused of practising witchery. Towards the terminal of the play he was traveling to squeal to state his life, but alternatively he chose the honest thing to make and allow them hang him. John Proctor did non desire them to destroy his name. In my opintion he made many errors in his life, but he made up for all of them by deceasing life a hero.
I think the Crucible showed how epic some people can be even when faced with decease and they defended there beliefs no affair what was traveling to go on to them. John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse were two great illustrations of these type of people. Both their characters were badly tested, and they both did the right thing.
