The Igbo holds Man at the highest point of creative activity and this is made vivid in their battle to associate everything that exists to be for the benefit of Man. For the Igbo. they believe that everything that exists has a intent and that purpose must be to aid Man. They believe that the universe exist for Man. Therefore in this paper. our chief concern will be on the nature. intent and terminal of Man in the traditional Igbo belief. There has been an bing common belief that Man is a animal of Chukwu ( God ) . Chukwu created Man together with his characteristic characteristics. Man in Igbo nomenclature is called mma-du and they have identified the two constituent elements in Man as obi na anu ahu ( organic structure and psyche. Mma-du can intend the beauty of life. the kernel of life or the self-respect of life ; this expresses their position as adult male the Centre of creative activity. Man stands following after God and this makes him posses the privilege place of delegating functions. maps and introduces intending to the remainder of created things.
They gave beginning to Gods. This is reflected on their popular proverb qi kere anyi. anyi ekegharia hour angle mom nye hour angle onodu significance ( the Gods created us and we recreated them and gave them place ) . Ndu which is life is constituted with two rules. the incorporeal and material rules. They work at the same time in adult male and at decease. they cease to map. The Igbo has a strong belief in life after decease. A practical illustration of this belief is manifested in their burial rite. the cult of ascendants and belief in reincarnation. At decease. when the breath of life leaves the organic structure. the material component ceases to map and it will be regarded as ozu ( cadaver ) . After decease. the corporeal component which is mmuo ( spirit ) leaves the organic structure and travels to alammuo ( land of liquors ) where it exists independently on itself. Some of these liquors can be regarded as ascendants if they reach they have the qualities suiting an ascendant. In decision. the Igbo tradition believes so much in adult male and his outstanding characteristics in the creative activity.
Many parts has been made to explicate this construct of adult male but the afore-mentioned `has been able to capture an overview of the general construct without changing the major construct in relation to the beginning. intent and terminal of Man.
