How influential can words be on a state of affairs? Can certain adjectives wholly change a scene? H.G. Wells does a great occupation of utilizing certain words in his narrative The Time Machine that paint a image for the reader that is truly so far from what he is truly stating. Wells successfully does this throughout his narrative ; he uses words like visible radiation, dark, evil, harmless, human, and inhumane, when in world it has nil to make with the narrative he is seeking to state.

When the clip traveller starts on his journey, he meets many new animals, the most important the Eloi and the Morlachs. These two animals originally were the same species, but as the environment changed, they developed different features and different duties.

The Eloi are simple animals that live merely in daytime, and wear t participate in any difficult work, or demo much attempt. The clip traveller s favourite of all the Eloi is named Weena. Weena is described as a small doll of a animal ( p. 18 ) . How much more guiltless, or harmless could she be? This is how all the Eloi are described populating their lives above land during daytime hours merely, and passing the remains of the clip fearing the dark. Weena dreaded the dark, dreaded shadows, dreaded black things. Dark to her was the one thing dreadful ( p. 18 ) .

Now what is it they dread, what is it in this atrocious dark that they speak of? The awful dark is the place of the Morlachs. These animals live in the underworld and are nauseatingly inhumane those pale, chinless faces and great lidless, pinkish eyes! ( p. 23 ) These gross outing animals are ne’er seen in light, and merely do visual aspects above land during the darkest of dark. The intent of the Morlachs is to keep the universe above them. All the large machines, and big equipment that Maktab al-Khidmat

es the upper universe so beautiful and peaceable, is located down bawl where no 1 is bothered by it, except these animals of the dark.

Why is it that the Morlachs are described to be so dark, and bad? Are they any different so us? They spend their life seeking to do things better and more advanced. The Morlachs eat the Eloi, but merely to last. Worlds today show all these features endeavoring for power, the demand to command, and endurance techniques.

What makes the Eloi so peaceable and perfect? In the narrative, Weena was floating down a watercourse and The chief current ran instead fleetly, but non excessively strongly for even a moderate swimmer. It will give you an thought, hence, of the unusual lack in these animals, when I tell you that not do the slightest effort to deliver the decrepit weeping small thing which was submerging before their eyes. ( p.17 ) There is no homo who would stand at that place and merely watch another life being die when they could make something to assist.

Dark, gloomy, fly-by-night do these words have to be related with evil? Light, gentle, heavenly do these words have to be related with good? What makes the Eloi so much more superior to the Morlachs? Nothing, if anything, the Morlachs are far more superior to the Eloi. The Morlachs controlled all that was populating, workss, animate beings, people. Without the Morlachs to keep the universe, the Eloi would non last.

H. G. Wells does a great occupation of doing the Morlachs expression like nil slaves that spend there meaningless clip down below working for the great Eloi above, when truly the Eloi are merely the Morlach s cowss. They grow the Eloi, do them healthy and so banquet upon them. Everyday we paint images in each other s heads with all the large words and metaphors that we use, when truly we are seeking to state a simple narrative, with a simple thought.
