Throughout his life, celebrated Grecian dramatist Sophocles was written many

animating plants. Of those which survive, the Theban drama ANTIGONE is

considered one of the best known plants. It depicts the struggle between province

and single. The most obvious struggle can be found by analysing the character

Creon. From an appraising point of view, Creon possesses a personality with traits

of arete, Ate, and Nemesis.

To get down with, Creon seems to hold an obssessive pride in himself and his strive

for excellence ( arete ) . A good illustration shows the phrase, & # 8220 ; As I see it, whoever

assumes the undertaking, the amazing undertaking of puting the metropolis & # 8217 ; s class, and refuses to follow the soundest policies, but fearing person, keeps his lip tight, he & # 8217 ; s utterly worthless ( Rosenberg 198-202 ) . & # 8221 ; This statement shows his belief that he must be in entire control of himself and his people. Furthermore, it shows that without this control, his function as a swayer stands no intent. This personality trait builds up another 1.

His obsessivity for excellence leads to his actions of being obstinate and unconcerned with other & # 8217 ; s sentiments ( Ate ) . This is easy seen in such state of affairss or phrases as & # 8220 ; He must be left unburied, his cadaver carrion for the birds and Canis familiariss to rupture, an lewdness for the citizens to lay eyes on ( Rosenberg 229-231 ) ! & # 8221 ; This shows that he goes beyond spiritual burial criterions and makes his ain edict. Another good illustration, covering with unconcern for other & # 8217 ; s feelings, is the phrase & # 8220 ; If you fail to

bring forth the felons for me, you & # 8217 ; ll curse your soiled money brought you pain ( 369-370 ) . & # 8221 ; This shows that he disregards, the character, the lookout & # 8217 ; s feelings and will convict him of false offense if he does non happen the existent felon. It besides shows that he would travel so far as to kill the lookout to stop his displeasure with the state of affairs at manus.

As can already be seen, Creon is an evil-hearted adult male. His & # 8220 ; diabolic & # 8221 ; personality causes him to see Nemesis. What he does non cognize is that his egoistic actions can do him more hurting than pleasance in life. This can be seen in his boy Haemon & # 8217 ; s supplication, & # 8220 ; Then she ( Antigone ) shall decease? but her decease will kill another. & # 8221 ; Not recognizing the earnestness of his boy & # 8217 ; s words, Creon disregards the state of affairs, merely subsequently to be of all time tortured with the self-destructive deceases of Antigone, his boy Haemon, and besides his darling married woman Eurydice.

Although Creon & # 8217 ; s personality traits of arete, Ate, and nemesis lead to his calamity filled life, he, like most people, realizes his wrongdoing excessively tardily. Even so, Creon displays strong leading abilities. This country must be commended, even though he has the incorrect attack. As in most instances, along with power comes a sense of high quality. He is no different from anyone else. On this note, this analysis should non merely be looked at every bit merely a position of Creon & # 8217 ; s mistakes and their tragic
